2007 marks 200 years since the abolition of transatlantic
slavery by the UK Parliament. Since then, Black
people in Britain have made loads of progress
but in the eyes of many, still have a long way
to go to fulfill their real potential in terms
of business success.
Black & Minority Ethnic people in the UK
represent a significant cultural consumer force
with a combined
disposable income of approximately £32
billion, according to research by the Institute
of Practitioners in Advertising – source

What a boost it would be to the BME community if
even a quarter of this consumer spend was spent in
the BME community each year. We at blackpoundonline.com.
in partnership with our sister Company g.a.p (growing
aspiring people) CIC (Community Interest Company)
& in support of Equanomics UK’s agenda believe
that the time for talking about the mere potential
for the Black Pound is over.g.a.p and blackpoundonline.com
believes in highlighting the success of black businesses,
entrepreneurs and Professionals in the UK. In June
2007, Tim Campbell – Winner of the Apprentice,
Wilfred-Emmanuel Jones – The Black Farmer, Levi
Roots – Winner of Dragons Den, Reggae Reggae
Sauce and Alexander Amosu - Ring tone Millionaire,
revealed the secrets of their business success. We
plan to Continue promoting such events to increase
the confidence of black consumers in the reliability
and efficiency of BME business people and professions
in the UK. By promoting such events we hope that BME
consumers will be encouraged to help and uplift their
own community thus enabling some of the more negative
aspects of the BME community portrayed by the media
to be displaced by positive success stores and showcasing
positive BME role models for our burgeoning business
community and
BME youth. I propose the following action:
Blackpoundonline.com Methodology
Step 1 – Demonstrate the ability
and means to help ourselves by working together and
supporting each other.
Step 2 – Create a means to
educate others and draw the community including our
youth, religious groups and the business world together.
Step 3 – Create programmes
and promote events that empower and enrich our business
community
Step 4 – Increasingly highlight
and showcase our success stories, particularly in
relation to our Champions and Leaders in Business
Step 5 – To work with big corporations
and help them to give something back to the community.
